Prof. (Dr.) B K Sen (2011-13, 2013-15, 2016-19)
Prof. Bimal Kanti Sen graduated in Science with distinction, did Master’s in Library Science from the University of Delhi standing first and earned his Ph.D. from Jadavpur University. He served INSDOC for more than 30 years and also at the University of Malaya as a Visiting Professor from 1995 to 1999. During his career as an academic spanning four decades, he has taught a number of subjects and guided more than 50 students for their dissertations. He contributed more than 200 papers, authored/edited one dozen books, wrote about 30 course materials of IGNOU and edited half a dozen journals. For his academic contributions, Prof. Sen has received a number of awards including Prof. S. Dasgupta Memorial Gold Medal, Distinguished Leadership Award by American Biographical Institute, etc.
Prof. B Guha (1975-2011)
Prof. B. Guha did Master of Library Science from Delhi University in 1950 and has served on some important positions including at Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, INSDOC (now NISCAIR), Professor of LIS at Banaras Hindu University, etc. His last project was the compilation of a combined volume of the Indian Library Science Abstracts (1992-99). Prof. Guha has published 75 articles, written a classic book entitled “Documentation and information Services, Techniques, and Systems” and prepared a comprehensive report on the Language Barrier in Scientific Communication in 1985, which was sponsored by the UNESCO. He has been closely associated with DLA and taught for many years in its School of Library Science.
Sh. M M Kashyap (1967-68)
Prof. Madan Mohan Kashyap was born in 1928 at Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. He joined the library profession in 1951 as the first Librarian of Government College, Dharamshala. In 1955, he joined the Delhi University Library System and worked in different capacities including Assistant Librarian until 1966 and later in 1966 became Lecturer in the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi where he served as a Professor until his retirement. As a teacher, he was actively involved in teaching and research in the areas of Knowledge Classification, Systems Analysis and Design, Computer Application, Library Management and Research Methodology. He was awarded the Fulbright Fellowship in 1971 and Ranganathan Medal by IASLIC in 1994. He has also served as faculty for the DLA Certificate Course in Library Science from 1964 to 1993, for Diploma Course in Library Science from 1974 to 1986 and joint editor of the DLA’s journal Library Herald. He has published 3 books, 39 papers and 2 reviews. He has also written books in the area of Library Systems Analysis and Data Base Design, which have been well received.
Sh. Girja Kumar (1965-66)
Born in 1925 in Pakistan, Prof. Girja Kumar is a veteran research scholar and founder of the Sapru House Library. He held many important positions including Chairman of the Delhi Library Board (1985-86) and President of the Indian Library Association (1983-85). He has published some of the bestselling books and was also associated with several national publications and wrote regularly for “The Indian Express” and “The Week” as a book critic. He was the Chairman of Indian Organizing Committee, IFLA Conference (1992), New Delhi, He has also published several books on user information, information management, censorship and library development in India. “S.R. Ranganathan: An Intellectual Biography” has been his classic publication. He retired as Librarian of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Library in 1985
